El Cajon
The murder trial of an El Cajon man accused of brutally beating his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter to death opened Thursday.
Matthew LeSure, 28, is charged with killing Sarah Toussant and dumping her body in a trash bin June 13.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Rick Clabby told jurors that the girl died of a severe beating, noting that she had three broken ribs, a severely cut liver, a kidney hemorrhage and a bruised lung.
Clabby said it was the opinion of the county’s pathologist that she “died a long, prolonged death.”
LeSure, who was caring for the little girl, claimed he fell asleep in a park and couldn’t find her when he woke up.
It is estimated that the trial will last five weeks.
