Local News in Brief : Day-Care Center to Open

Share

A new day-care center will open at the Normont Terrace housing project in Harbor City this spring, one of four in Los Angeles to receive money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

HUD officials notified the Los Angeles Housing Authority last week that the four housing projects will receive a total of $329,000 for the centers.

About $83,000 is set aside for Normont Terrace. The money will pay for renovating a social hall as well as start-up costs and the first year of operations at the center, according to Jill Karuso, resident services coordinator for the housing authority.

Karuso said the authority hopes to open the center by June. It will be operated by the YMCA of Los Angeles and will have capacity for about 30 children ages 5 through 13.
