Local News in Brief : County’s Plans for Park Suffer Setback

Share

A Superior Court judge on Thursday struck down an attempt by Los Angeles County to seek proposals for commercial projects at Frank G. Bonelli Regional County Park in San Dimas.

In response to a suit filed by a citizens’ group opposed to further commercial development at the park, Judge Miriam Vogel ruled that the county had ignored the authority of cities adjacent to the park in soliciting bids from developers.

The county must now reissue the requests for proposals with the involvement of the park’s Joint Powers Authority, which represents six nearby cities, said Judy Hammond, press deputy for Supervisor Pete Schabarum. Previously, the county had believed the Joint Powers Authority had no say over park development.

The ruling prevents the county from reaching agreement with a firm that had proposed to build a golf center in the park. But Schabarum said the county will proceed with its plans.
