Semiautomatic weapon fire from a passing car smashed through the wall of a Compton home Saturday night, killing a 2-year-old boy and wounding two men, one critically, police said.

“We think it was gang related,” said Compton Police Lt. William Wallace. He identified the dead child as Phillip Fisher. The critically wounded man was not immediately identified.

The third victim, Rodney Jackson, 24, was hospitalized in satisfactory condition with a bullet wound in his knee.

Wallace said the two men were standing outside a home on South Central Avenue when shots were fired from a passing car. The dead child apparently had no connection to the men, he said.
