Omani Oil Minister Said Shanfari said today that his country is ready to reduce its oil exports to help stabilize world oil prices after a meeting between the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and independent oil producers last week.

The minister’s pledge was made in a statement to his country’s Arabic-language daily Oman and was broadcast by Muscat Radio, monitored in Bahrain.

Meanwhile, Syria said that it plans to boost its oil exports from 80,000 barrels a day in 1988 to 130,000 to 140,000 barrels a day this year.

Oman’s announcement followed a meeting last week in London between oil experts from six OPEC countries and 13 non-OPEC countries.

A statement issued after last Thursday’s meeting called for non-OPEC nations to cooperate with OPEC in stabilizing world oil prices.
