From Times wire services

In an ongoing job-selling probe, Pennsylvania’s auditor general today fired 18 people in her department who she said had bought jobs or promotions under previous administrations.

The 18 people ranged from management down to the staff level in the 800-member department, and many worked in the field as auditors, Auditor General Barbara Hafer said. Jobs and promotions were priced between $1,000 and $5,000, she said. Investigators developed a list of 25 people suspected of either buying jobs or promotions or having jobs bought for them, said Hafer, a Republican who took office two weeks ago.
