Duarte : Bingo Survey Presented

Share

In a bid to persuade the school board to allow bingo games on school property, a citizens group has given trustees a list of schools that are successfully raising money by sponsoring the game.

The Duarte Citizens Bingo Committee presented their survey results to the school board last week, showing how eight schools from other San Gabriel Valley districts were making thousands of dollars every year from bingo.

The Duarte Community and Education Foundation, which raises funds for school improvements, was sponsoring weekly bingo games at the City of Hope National Medical Center until the October, 1987, earthquake damaged the hall they had been using.

The school board, which last summer denied the foundation permission to move the activity to a school cafeteria, will review the decision Feb. 9. )

Explaining why the request was turned down, Supt. Bob Packer said the board disapproved of gambling and was concerned about liability for the players and health dangers from their smoking.
