A bomb found in El Cajon Tuesday exploded when the finder threw it into a vacant lot in the 400 block of Emerald Avenue, police said.

Police had already been called, because the bomb, described as two bottles of liquid with a timing device attached, had been found earlier by a man who carried it into his apartment. When he examined the object, he realized that it might be a bomb and took it back outside, leaving it where he found it. He then called police.

Before police arrived at the scene, the second man had found the bag and carried it off.

The second man said that when he looked inside the bag he saw the bottles and timing device. He realized that it might be a bomb, and threw it into the vacant lot, where it exploded.
