In his Jan. 18 article, “Nixon’s Media Memo to New President,” Howard Rosenberg missed the point of the TV Guide article by former President Richard Nixon.

Television has changed. The average “piece” allotted to a presidential news conference within the news has shrunk in the past 20 years from 2 1/2 minutes to just over 42 seconds, including the introduction by the news correspondent.

This MTV attitude toward the news--primarily due to ratings and the ever decreasing attention span of the American public--has altered the way important issues of our times are presented.

In his article, Nixon tried to demonstrate not a hostility toward the media but what has to be done to get these “little photo opportunities” within the newscasts.
