Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach is coordinating several talks at Irvine schools on care of the human heart during “Heart Week,” Feb. 11 to 18, the hospital announced.

“On Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), University High School students in Irvine will hear Dr. Norton Humphreys, Hoag’s first heart transplant recipient, tell his dramatic story of survival,” said Pam Bolen, a spokeswoman for the hospital. “Dr. Humphreys, who received his new heart last April, will spend a full day at the school, speaking to special assemblies and science classes.”

Humphreys also is scheduled to speak Feb. 17 at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, together with Dr. Aidan Raney, a cardiac surgeon who heads Hoag’s heart transplant team.
