9th-Grade Classes to Be Shifted to Hoover High

Share

To ease overcrowding at two junior high schools, the Glendale school board voted Tuesday to shift ninth-grade classes from the schools to Hoover High. Hoover now has grades 10 through 12.

The board’s action will allow the district to move about 700 ninth-graders to Hoover from Toll Junior High School across the street and Roosevelt Junior High School in the southern end of the city.

To handle the new students, a $4-million, 26-classroom addition to Hoover was approved by the board in January. Construction is scheduled to begin in April, 1990, and be completed by September, 1991, when the transfers will take place.

Toll and Roosevelt are at capacity and are still growing in enrollment, Supt. Robert A. Sanchis said. The shift of ninth-graders will open 13 classrooms at Toll and nine at Roosevelt. Roosevelt was expanded by 12 classrooms in a building project completed in 1987.
