From Times Wire Services

A former British soldier failed in court today to block Prince Philip from attending Japanese Emperor Hirohito’s funeral on the ground that it would be an act of treason.

A High Court judge rejected George Calvert’s application for a judicial review of a government directive to Queen Elizabeth II to send a Royal Family member to the funeral Feb. 24. Calvert, who served in the army of occupation in Japan, claimed a royal visit to Japan would be an act of treason because Britain never officially ended the war with Japan and 600-year-old British legislation forbids collaboration with enemies.
