Concerning the French Revolution, you dwelt mostly on its excesses and shortcomings. Remember, too, that it abolished ancient political and economic wrongs. Its constitution proclaimed many freedoms and much justice. The bloody terror and destructive events of the 19th Century are always to be lamented.

However, our own revolution, did not, as the article claimed, establish continued democracy. Have you forgotten slavery?

What of the horrors of the Industrial Revolution which gave great wealth to a few and great misery to many? This is democracy?

What of the planned and systematic destruction of the American Indian, one of the earth’s few peoples who truly lived in freedom unlike “civilized” people who are forced to obey unjust laws which favor a small powerful minority?

Our revolution fell short of its goals, too.
