Theater impresario James A. Doolittle, general director of the Southern California Theatre Assn., has received a superior achievement award from the U.S. Information Agency for his part in presenting an acclaimed production of Herman Wouk’s “Caine Mutiny Court-Martial” in Beijing last October. The play, which was directed by Charlton Heston, was produced and partially underwritten by Doolittle and Bette Bao Lord, wife of the U.S. ambassador to China, Winston Lord. “Caine” is the first in a series of American plays that Doolittle and Lord will produce in China with the Beijing People’s Art Theatre.
