The 32nd San Francisco International Film Festival will open March 8 with the American premiere of Terry Gilliam’s expensive and controversial new film, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.” Gilliam, a Monty Python alumnus and director of the movies “Time Bandits” and “Brazil,” has created an 18th-Century fantasy with an orgy of special effects and an uncredited surprise appearance by Robin Williams. In addition, the San Francisco festival will feature the first American screening of a newly restored print of Fritz Lang’s silent saga “Die Nibelungen,” which is in two 140-minute parts.
