Molecular Biosystems reported a third-quarter profit of $1.2 million on revenue of $3 million, compared with a profit of $961,578 on revenue of $2.1 million over the same period last year.

For the nine months ended Dec. 31, the company’s profit was $1.6 million on revenue of $6.1 million, up from a profit of $1.4 million on revenue of $4.3 million over the same three quarters the previous year.

Molecular Biosystems generates minimal revenue from product sales. However, the company has signed multimillion-dollar marketing and research agreements with Nycomed of Norway and Mallinckrodt of St. Louis covering Albunex, an ultrasound imaging product under development.

The company’s profit and revenue flow mainly from licensing and research funds paid by the two companies.
