“This Island Earth”(MCA Home Video 40327, 86 minutes, Side One, CLV Extended Play; Side Two, CAV Standard Play);”Against All Flags”(MCA 40630, 83 minutes, one side CLV, the other CAV);”The Mummy”(MCA 40030, 72 minutes, one side CLV, the other CAV, all under $35).

These three releases all have one thing in common: Each includes a special collection of stills from the movie, a “photo scrapbook.” “This Island Earth,” a 1955 sci-fi cult classic with special effects--”2 1/2 years in the making!”--offers 64 photos and the original theatrical trailer. “Against All Flags,” featuring an aging Errol Flynn and a feisty Maureen O’Hara, has 136 photos, including cheesecake poses of O’Hara. “The Mummy,” called a “talkie horror classic” when it was released in 1932, offers 29 photos and the scary original theatrical trailer.

“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”(Warner Home Video 11056, 129 minutes, CLV Extended Play, under $30).

This laser disc version offers a digitally processed sound track that lets you hear each crackling word distinctly. The sharp black-and-white images, impeccably conceived by Mike Nichols in his first directing effort, do full justice to this theatrical blockbuster starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sandy Dennis and George Segal. Another helpful feature is the use of chapter stops throughout the three sides, enabling the viewer to quickly find a favorite scene (“. . . When is our son coming home?” is Chapter 5 on Side One).
