Airline flight delays in 1988 at U.S. airports dropped to the lowest level in three years, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The FAA said delays of 15 minutes or more totaled 337,661 in 1988, down from 355,718 delays in 1987 and 417,644 in 1986. Weather and heavy traffic were the main causes of the delays. The major airports that reported dramatic reductions in delays were: Los Angeles International (-68.9%), Boston Logan (-40.5%), Atlanta Hartsfield (-39.6%), Washington National (-44.2%) and New York’s John F. Kennedy (-19.6%).
