A bank robber, whom police have dubbed “The Travelin’ Man,” struck twice Friday, hitting banks in La Jolla and Point Loma for a total of $1,200, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
In the first holdup, the robber escaped with $200 from the Security Pacific Bank on Wall Street in La Jolla at 11:15 a.m. after showing a teller a note that read, “Give me your traveler’s checks and money,” Robinson said.
In the second robbery, at 12:42 p.m., the thief flashed the same type of note to a teller at the Great Western Savings on Midway Drive and fled with $1,000.
The robber, who police believe has committed at least six similar holdups since Jan. 1, is described as about 25 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches, with sandy brown hair. He was wearing a pastel jacket and sunglasses.
The robber is believed to have robbed the same La Jolla bank of $1,435 on Jan. 9, Robinson said.
