A Flying Tiger cargo plane crashed in the heavily wooded hills outside the capital today and burst into flames, killing all four people on board, authorities said. The dead were identified as U.S. citizens.

The Boeing 747 cargo plane operated by the Los Angeles-based air freight company was on approach to land at Subang International Airport when it disappeared from radar, Civil Aviation Department officials said.

Nordin Saad, a Civil Aviation official, said that the bodies were recovered but that the victims’ identities were being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Other Civil Aviation officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the cause of the crash was not readily apparent but that the flight data recorder had been recovered.

Officials said the aircraft left Singapore for Kuala Lumpur with a cargo of freight.
