Share

Senior guard Karon Howell scored 46 points to break a USC and Pacific 10 Conference single-game scoring record, but it was not enough as the USC women’s basketball team lost to Arizona, 94-84, Saturday night at Arizona.

Cherie Nelson, considered the star player on the team, played only 4 minutes. No explanation was offered as to why Nelson didn’t play more.

Howell made 17-of-29 field-goal attempts, including six-of-12 three-point shots. The performance broke Cheryl Miller’s four-year school record of 45 points. Howell also broke the conference record of 45 points, set in 1987 by Jennifer Bennett of California.
