Candles Lit to Honor Hostages in Lebanon
Relatives of American and British hostages held in Lebanon lit candles Sunday night to honor the captives and appeal for their release.
About 100 people attended the tribute at Calvary Missionary Church, including seven relatives of the hostages.
Candles were lit for each of the nine American hostages still believed held, and a photo of each captive was displayed, said Ernest May, chairman of the “Second Annual Tribute and Recognition.”
The church’s pastor sounded a message of hope to the hostages’ families, May said.
In attendance Sunday night were John Anderson, brother of Associated Press journalist Terry A. Anderson; Thomas Cicippio, brother of hostage Joseph J. Cicippio; Estelle Ronneburg, mother of hostage Jesse Turner; Dorothy and John Rose, mother- and father-in-law of hostage Alann Steen; and Elaine and David Collett, wife and son of British hostage Alec Collett.
Other Americans believed held hostage in Lebanon are Thomas Sutherland, Frank H. Reed, Edward A. Tracy, Robert Polhill and U.S. Marine Lt. Col. William R. Higgins.
