Young Has 28 as Las Vegas Routs CS Long Beach Men

Reserve Barry Young scored a career-high 28 points and Stacey Augmon added 18 Monday night as 18th-ranked Nevada Las Vegas raced past Cal State Long Beach for a 104-74 Big West Conference victory in the Thomas and Mack Center.

Young, a sophomore forward, made seven of 10 three-point shots and sparked a Las Vegas run late in the first half. He made three three-point shots and a layup in a seven-minute span midway through the second half.

Young, who played 26 minutes, was 10 of 15 from the field in lead the Rebels, 19-6 overall and 12-2 in Big West play.

David Butler added 17 points and 11 rebounds for UNLV, which beat Temple, 62-60, Sunday.

John Hatten led Long Beach (12-12, 9-6) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Rudy Harvey had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the 49ers, who had a four-game winning streak ended.

Las Vegas scored the game’s first seven points and led the entire way. The Rebels scored 15 of the final 23 points of the first half to take a 54-33 halftime lead.

The Rebels, who made 10 of 16 three-point shots, were ahead by 20 or more points throughout the second half.
