A Philippine commission tracking the wealth of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, his family and associates, today said it filed graft and corruption charges against Marcos’ brother-in-law.

It said the criminal charges were filed against Benjamin Romualdez, younger brother of Marcos’s wife, Imelda, for having amassed about $280,000 by holding four government posts at the same time for 10 years. In the first criminal case filed against a Marcos relative, Romualdez is also facing civil charges for corruption. Commissioner Augusto Villarin said Romualdez, who fled to the United States when Marcos was overthrown three years ago, would be arrested if he returned to the country. It is not known where Romualdez lives.
