LOCAL : Man Dies in Simi Freeway Leap
Traffic on the Simi Valley Freeway was snarled today during the morning commute when a man jumped off a pedestrian bridge into an eastbound traffic lane and was killed, Los Angeles police said.
Police said the death was being investigated as a suicide. The man, whose identity was not released, climbed over a safety fence on the pedestrian bridge that crosses the freeway east of Reseda Boulevard in Northridge and jumped about 9 a.m., police said.
The man hit the cab of a tractor-trailer rig and was killed instantly, police said. The death caused traffic in the eastbound lanes to slow and back up about a half mile while the investigation took place.
