LONG BEACH — A new multicultural theater company has announced plans to open here in October, using a combination of professional actors and graduate theater students selected through national auditions.
California Repertory Theater will be based on the campus of Cal State Long Beach and will produce plays from an international repertoire. It also will serve as a theatrical training laboratory at the university.
Howard Burman, producing artistic director and chairman of the university’s department of theater arts, said creation of the repertory theater will enhance the reputation and quality of CSULB’s theater program. He also said the demographics “indicate that there is a substantial audience base in the community.”
The four-play season will run from October to May in rotating repertory. For information regarding tax-deductible contributions or tickets, contact the department of theater arts at 985-5356.
