An improperly installed engine fuel filter was blamed for causing an engine fire that forced a Horizon Air commuter jet to make an emergency landing and careen into a terminal at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport April 15, 1988. The National Transportation Safety Board in Washington, D.C., said the fuel filter assembly on the Pratt & Whitney PW100 series engine that caught fire probably was improperly installed at the company’s Toronto plant.
