Brad Gilbert, a late replacement for tournament favorite Boris Becker, upset a Stefan Edberg, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the World Championship Tennis finals at Dallas. Mikael Pernfors was a 2-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 upset winner over fellow Swede Mats Wilander, and will meet Gilbert Thursday in the semifinals. WCT officials called Gilbert at his Oakland home when Jimmy Connors, the first alternate, failed to arrive at Dallas.
