Controversy Over Tower
The Senate Armed Services Committee’s rejection of Tower along party lines demonstrates once again that the Democrats care more about partisan political gain than they do about the welfare of the country (Part I, Feb. 24). They would rather embarrass a Republican President than see the nation served by an able and qualified man of his choice. This is nothing new, for the Reagan years were characterized by a disloyal opposition, especially on matters dealing with defense and foreign policy.
Since the Democrats’ commitment to a strong defense is highly questionable, it is especially scary to see them block the nomination of a man dedicated to keeping America’s armed forces up to par.
