Two men were hospitalized Thursday after being shot during robberies, police said.

Officers said that four men approached Alfonso Esparza Sanchez, 58, near 400 N. Main St. about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and demanded money. When Sanchez said he had no money, one of the men shot him once with a shotgun, Santa Ana Police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.

He was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with wounds to his left wrist, left side and left thigh and was listed in stable condition Thursday night.

About 20 minutes later, three men approached Francisco Ruben Ibarra near 1415 N. Ross St. and demanded money. One of the men shot Ibarra once in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun, Thomas said. Ibarra was reported in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Western Medical Center.

“There’s a strong possibility the same suspects were involved in both incidents,” Thomas said.

All the suspects ran away.
