In replying to my complaint about sloppy diction in “A Very British Coup,” letter writer Bernard Mendoza (Feb. 19) sarcastically suggests that British TV programs be dubbed for broadcast in the United States. Perhaps that’s not so far-fetched.

Several years ago the Brits sent us the film “The Sparrers Can’t Sing.” The dialogue, a combination of Cockney and other accents, was so unintelligible to American audiences that it was reissued with English subtitles.
