SDSU Rallies to Beat UCSD in Volleyball

The ninth-ranked San Diego State University men’s volleyball team was trailing, 14-11, in the first game, with UC San Diego serving to win Friday at SDSU’s Peterson Gym.

But the Aztecs (10-8) fought back to win the game, 16-14, then took the next two with identical 15-12 scores for a 3-0 nonconference victory over the Tritons (3-14).

MEN’S TENNIS

San Diego State University fell flat against No. 15 Arizona, losing, 6-0, in Tucson. Tole Marinkovic was the only Aztec singles player to extend his match to three sets.

The University of San Diego (7-9) split two games in the Cal Lutheran tournament in Thousand Oaks, winning the first, 9-1, over California Baptist College and losing the second, 4-1, to host Cal Lutheran.

BASEBALL

The University of San Diego had 19 hits to defeat Iona, 18-1, in a nonconference game at Cunningham Stadium, the third consecutive victory for the Toreros (8-8). The game was dedided early as USD scored nine runs in the first inning. Winning pitcher Lou Skertich (2-1) allowed just three hits in six innings.

Cal State Fullerton (12-6) rallied for two runs in the ninth for a 5-4 victory over U.S. International University.
