Four University of Arizona football players were jailed overnight in Tucson for investigation of alleged misdemeanor assaults of a racial nature, authorities said.
Police said the four players, all black, allegedly sought out white victims walking alone, accused them of racial slurs and then assaulted each.
Police arrested Michael Bundy, a lineman from Tempe, Ariz.; Sean Hutson, a receiver from Sacramento; defensive back Samuel Edwards, an All-City defensive back at Reseda High School, and Jeffrey King, identified by Coach Dick Tomey as a walk-on. All four players are freshmen.
