Share

A prisoner who escaped from an Orange County minimum-security jail work crew was captured by sheriff’s deputies early Wednesday at an Anaheim motel.

Germain Orlando Rios, 59, of Anaheim was serving a 90-day jail sentence for burglary when he “just walked away” from a crew that was working in the Santa Ana riverbed Jan. 12, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson.

“He apparently just holed up” in the motel, Olson said Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies staked out the motel in the 900 block of South Harbor Boulevard early Wednesday and captured Rios about 8:30 a.m. as he was making his way back to his room, Olson said.

Rios offered no resistence and did not volunteer any information as to why he fled the work crew or what he had been doing since his escape, Olson said.
