Local News in Brief : Lesbian Lover Wins Round on Custody
A woman will be allowed to seek joint custody of her former female lover’s daughter, who was born during their lesbian relationship, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ruled.
“It’s exciting that a person who is not a natural biological parent can proceed in a same-sex relationship case,” said attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing the mother’s former lover, Terri Sabol.
After a closed session with attorneys for Sabol and the mother, who has not been identified, Superior Court Commissioner James Endman allowed the custody case to proceed.
Endman ruled that if a nonparent can be ordered to pay child support, then a nonparent should be allowed to seek custody of a child.
