Robert Seguso picked up a $17,500 tab Friday morning.

Seguso, the 48th-ranked player in the world, was fined $7,500 for four code violations and the default in Thursday night’s quarterfinal match against Andre Agassi.

Grand Prix supervisor Thomas Karlberg broke down the fines: $500 for the first code violation of verbal abuse, $500 for unsportsmanlike conduct, $500 for the second instance of verbal abuse, $5,000 for the third and $1,000 for the default, which had been decreed by chair umpire Richard Ings.

In addition, Seguso was fined $10,000 for reaching the $7,500 fine limit in a 12-month period.

That was the extent of the bad news, though. Tom Gorman, U.S. Davis Cup captain, said that Seguso’s status on the team will not be affected.

Seguso cannot be suspended from the match with France April 7-9 because this is the first time he has reached the $7,500 plateau in fines, Gorman said.

The Davis Cup captain said he believes Seguso will steer clear of any fines that would lead to a suspension and that Seguso will play doubles with Ken Flach against the probable French team of Yannick Noah and Guy Forget.
