From Times wire services

A bomb was removed today from a social club frequented by reputed Gambino godfather John Gotti and police sought a man who phoned to say he had left the device as a “gift” for Gotti.

The police bomb squad was called to the Ravenite Social Club on Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s Little Italy after authorities examined a suspect package and determined it was explosive, said police spokesman Sgt. Raymond O’Donnell.

Six men are on trial in Newark, N.J., on charges that include plotting to kill Gotti and his brother. Gotti, known as the “dapper don” because of his fancy clothes and prideful manner, is known to frequent the Ravenite.
