Local News in Brief : County Demand Too High, Irwindale Says

Share

Irwindale City Manager Charles Martin said Los Angeles County officials are asking the city to pay $99 million during a proposed 30-year agreement to convert county land to parking lots for the projected Los Angeles Raiders stadium.

Martin said Irwindale is offering $32 million, and that the city will be forced to build the stadium on an alternative site unless county officials lower their demands.

Weeks ago, Irwindale officials had said they thought they would shift the site to an alternative location south of Live Oak Avenue and west of the San Gabriel River Freeway. That site would not involve renting county land for parking.

But Raider team owner Al Davis has expressed a preference for the original site, north of the Foothill Freeway and west of Irwindale Avenue.
