Baltimore Blast Defeats Lazers, 5-3

Mike Sweeney scored one goal and assisted on another Tuesday night to lead the Baltimore Blast to a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Lazers in a Major Indoor Soccer League game.

Blast goalkeeper Scott Manning made nine saves and gained his league-leading 14th victory as the first-place Blast (25-13) ended a two-game losing streak.

Domenic Mobilio’s third-period goal was the game-winner, giving Mobilio five game-winning goals this season. Mobilio has scored a goal in five consecutive games and a point in 11 straight.

The Lazers (18-20) took a 1-0 lead on Michael Collins’ 22nd goal of the season midway through the first period. The Blast then reeled off four unanswered goals to break open the game and end a three-game losing streak against the Lazers.

Carl Valentine, David Byrne and Tim Wittman also scored for the Blast.

Fernando Clavijo and Gary Heale also scored for the Lazers, and goalkeeper Kris Peat made eight saves.

The Lazers finish their three-game trip tonight at Kansas City, Mo., against the Comets.
