Kaufman & Broad Home Corp.: The Los Angeles home builder reported first-quarter profit of $1.5 million, a gain of 64% over a year ago. Revenue rose 28% to $173 million. The firm, which is the largest builder of single-family homes in California and third largest in France, where it also constructs office buildings, attributed the results to a 23% increase in unit sales, continued strong orders and tight control of fixed costs.
