Democratic Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp named Richard Ross, former top political adviser to Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco), as the manager of his 1990 gubernatorial campaign. A veteran political strategist, Ross has managed some of the Democratic legislative races on behalf of the Speaker that have helped keep Brown in power. He also ran the successful Proposition 98 campaign last fall that resulted in increased state aid for schools. In 1987, Ross managed Art Agnos’ winning San Francisco mayoral campaign. “He (Ross) has a proven track record and a unique ability to get things done,” Van de Kamp said.
