Actor Carroll O’Connor, who underwent heart bypass and gallbladder surgery at Emory University Hospital, was discharged today and said, “I feel a lot better than when I went in.”

O’Connor, 64, who gained fame as the amiable bigot Archie Bunker in the television series “All in the Family,” was admitted to the hospital March 10 after a routine physical examination. He was working on his series, “In the Heat of the Night,” in nearby Covington at the time.

Doctors performed coronary artery bypass graft surgery the next day. The gallbladder surgery was performed March 20 after the actor developed unrelated gallbladder problems while recovering from the bypass.
