Spring took a holiday in the East and the Rockies as a foot of snow fell in Colorado and six inches blanketed New York state and Vermont. Strong winds made driving difficult over mountain passes in the northern and central mountains of Colorado, where the Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas reported more than a foot of new snow. A storm tapered off across portions of the central Appalachians and northern New England after dumping a half-foot of snow across the Adirondacks and the St. Lawrence River valley.
