In Brief : Denver Rangers File for Chapter 11
Citing a need for financial breathing room to complete this season, the Denver Rangers hockey team has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in Denver U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Rangers managing general partner Richard Gerry said the team has been beset by operating losses this season exceeding $500,000. He said the losses could escalate to as much as $750,000 by season’s end.
Denver has one remaining home game tonight before the start of the International Hockey League playoffs.
“We’re keeping all options open, including moving to Kansas City and staying in Denver,” Gerry said. “We’ll evaluate things at season’s end.”
If the Rangers were to fold or move, it would mark the fourth time in the past 15 years that pro hockey has failed in Denver.
