Harry Bubb, chairman and chief executive officer of Pacific Mutual, received the “Y’s Guy” award from the YMCA of South Orange County last Thursday when the organization staged its annual “Celebration of Excellence” dinner at the Irvine Hilton and Towers. Local women honored at the event were: Virginia McDermott, vice president of Allergan, honored in the business category; Marjorie Caserio, chair of the department of chemistry at UC Irvine, education category; Judith Ryan, superior court judge, law; community leader Ruth Ding, the arts; Patricia McGuigan, Santa Ana city councilwoman, government; Dr. Quynh Kieu, who specializes in pediatrics in Fountain Valley, medicine; columnist Vida Dean, communications; Sister Carmen Sarati of the sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, religion; community activist Gwenda Watson, community service, and peace activist Lyn Harris Hicks, world peace. Mary Godinez was chairwoman. Proceeds were $10,000.
