The owner of a small chemical company in Los Alamitos was injured when fire damaged his plant.
The fire broke out at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at BCB Products on Noel Avenue near Katella Avenue as the owner, whose name was not released, was mixing chemicals, Fire Capt. Hank Raymond said.
The owner used a fire extinguisher, but several barrels of toluene, a highly flammable liquid used as a base for paint thinner, exploded, authorities said.
It took firefighters an hour to control the blaze, Raymond said. The owner was treated for minor injuries at Los Alamitos Community Hospital.
The company makes waxes and cleaning solutions, Raymond said.
