Malibu : Big Rock Mesa Settlement
An agreement has been reached among Los Angeles County, Caltrans, 16 Malibu homeowners and their insurance companies over a 1983 landslide on Big Rock Mesa.
The homeowners, who were not part of a larger settlement involving 238 other homeowners, settled for amounts ranging from $200,000 to $250,000, less court costs and attorneys’ fees.
All but two of the homeowners, who were called the “strays” in the legal battle over the landslide, owned properties on the ocean side of Pacific Coast Highway, whereas the 238 homeowners who reached a $97-million settlement in January live above them on the mountain side.
