Maxwell Communication Corp.: The British conglomerate that last year acquired Macmillan Inc. said 1988 profit rose 2.9% to $230.5 million from the year before. Sales climbed 27% to $1.9 billion. In addition to the $2.6-billion takeover of Macmillan, Maxwell Communication reached agreement in October with U.S. publisher Dun & Bradstreet to buy the Official Airlines Guide.
