MAYORAL RACE

Mayor Tom Bradley will tour the Youth Intervention Program facility and speak to the students, parents and counselors at 9:30 a.m. today, 1850 W. 62nd St. The program offers high-risk youths academic classes, counseling, vocational training and job-placement assistance. The youths have dropped out of the school system and, in many cases, have joined gangs.

CITY COUNCIL RACES

Ryan Snyder, a 5th District candidate and an urban planner, holds a press conference today at 2:30 p.m., just south of the Senior Center, 5040 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks. Snyder will promote changes in Los Angeles’ rent control ordinance.

Councilman Ernani Bernardi holds a reception for the community today from 4 to 6 p.m., at his new field office, 13630 Van Nuys Blvd., Pacoima.

Bennett Kayser, a 13th District candidate and former president of the Federation of Hillside and Canyon Assns., has received the endorsements of the Hollywood Highlands Democratic Club and the Elysian Valley Property Owners, Tenants & Business Assn.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE RACE

Mary Louise Longoria, an education policy analyst and candidate for Office No. 2, has received the endorsements of Rep. Mervyn Dymally (D-Compton); state Sens. Robert Beverly (R-Manhattan Beach), William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights), Alan Robbins (D-Tarzana) and Art Torres (D-Los Angeles); Assembly members Richard Katz (D-Sylmar), Richard Floyd (D-Carson) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Los Angeles); Los Angeles City Council members Gloria Molina and Ernani Bernardi, and Los Angeles Board of Education members Roberta Weintraub and Leticia Quezada.

Jeff Shane, a Beverly Hills attorney and candidate for Office No. 6, has been invited by Mayor Tom Bradley to participate in the Mayor’s Education Advisory Committee.
