‘Soft-Spoken’ Robber Arrested

Share

A man suspected of robbing 15 banks since the beginning of the year--and dubbed the “Soft-Spoken Bandit” because he addressed tellers so quietly--has been arrested by Torrance police.

James David Wilson, 32, was picked up Tuesday evening at a motel room in Harbor City after detectives matched his fingerprints to those found at a Torrance savings and loan that was robbed in February, Torrance Police Sgt. Ron Traber said.

Traber said that, after his arrest, Wilson admitted robbing eight banks in Torrance, two in Long Beach and one each in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, El Monte and Huntington Beach.

Wilson is being held without bail at the Torrance Jail on suspicion of bank robbery and suspicion of violating his parole on a previous bank robbery conviction.

Arrested along with Wilson at the motel were Doreen Barnes and Dean Dominguez, both 32. Barnes was arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive and Dominguez for allegedly violating parole on his own bank robbery conviction.
